How Avamar tracks VMs in vCenter
Hello,
I have two vCenters being backed up by Avamar. How does Avamar track each VM ? Does it take each VMs UUID and converts it to its own unique value ? The reason i ask is because i just finished converting to dynamic folder backups. While importing clients i got an error messages where it said that VM already exists in another vCenter. These are not actually VMs but VM templates but still. So i connected to each vCenter using powercli and looked at each templates UUID.
PowerCLI C:\> get-template "Rhel6_64Bit_25gb_campusH" | %{(Get-View $_.Id).config.uuid}
4237bfc6-dbf4-7738-4d93-1f0ace68d64e
PowerCLI C:\> get-template "Rhel6_64Bit_25gb_campusH" | %{(Get-View $_.Id).config.uuid}

As you can see they have unique UUID yet Avamar things they are the identical VM templates. Any insight ?
Thank you

As far as I know, Avamar creates its own ID and maps it with the Name. In you example the Names are same and that is likely the cause of the problem.

it can't be the name, i have had instance of VMs in two different vCenters with same name. Avamar backed them up just fine.
