How to make Avamar (7.4) aware of a replicated Mtree not known to Avamar?

Hi,

Recently we added a DD6800 to out Avamar node to replace a DD2500.

It was already running with a DD2500 as backup storage target.

We were not able to do a Collection replication from DD2500 to DD6800.

So we have backups moving over to the new DD6800.

How do I replicate the original DD2500 Avamar Mtree over to the DD6800 and have Avamar be aware of it so we can do restores from it?

That is the big question! How do we make Avamar aware of the Mtree and all the backup datasets within?

Thanks,

John

May I suggest Headswapping.

We did that and it is working fine for us.

Have you already integrated the new DD with the Avamar and started writing backups to it? If so, you're just going to have to wait for the backups on the old DD to age out.

If you haven't yet attached the new DD, you can still run MTree replication of the Avamar MTree from the old DD to the new DD, then edit the DD settings on the Avamar to point to the new system. Make sure you take frequent checkpoints while you're doing the cutover and have a plan in place to cut back if anything goes wrong. If in doubt, I'd recommend working with Professional Services since they do these types of migrations all the time.
