Installing the Avamar agent without starting the agent service?

Does anyone know if it is possible to install the Avamar agent without the actual agent service starting?

Specific scenario is with AIX - customer needs to change the listenport for the Avamar agent so it doesn't contend with other software.

Changing the listenport parameter is easy enough after the initial software install of course - but the initial software installation appears to install the Avamar agent package AND start the avagent service, which of course will use the default listenport value and potentially cause contention.

I haven't been able to determine whether the AIX "installp" command has an option that allows it to prevent the software agent install from starting the agent service.

Only other option I can think of is possibly to create the directory that avagent.cmd resides in before running the agent install - since the agent install doesn't create that file, it shouldn't get overwritten by anything (theoretically, anyway - the install would create that directory if it wasn't there, and will write other files to it).

Anyone had to deal with something like this, AIX or otherwise? All comments/feedback appreciated - thanks.
