Remote backups to Av+DD, best target.
Hi
I have a new Avamar (7.2) & DD solution.
All of the local hosts send their backup data to the DD, but I have a dozen or so remote general Windows servers that need to be backed up. They range from 30-100GB in size, and are all on the end of WAN links ranging from 20Mbit to 50Mbit bandwidth and 15-30ms latency.
What would be the most efficient target for the backup data? the Avamar or the DD?
Thanks

I would backup to the DD. Starting with DDOS 5.5 100ms or less latency is supported. I'm guessing Avamar storage would be a little more efficient due to the local p_cache storing a list of hashes. DD has to send all hashes to the data domain to check to see if they are unique or not. With that said I would still use data domain storage because if you aren't saving backup data to Avamar storage already there is a good chance it wasn't sized to do so.

We have enough Avamar capacity, I'm just after the most efficient and WAN friendly method. From what you have said, direct to Avamar would be less "chatty"?
