Replication over Public Internet
Is it possible to replicate Avamar data over the public internet from a Deep Node to a Grid? Do all Grid nodes need to be accessible publicly (i.e. NAT'd)?

It is possible to replicate data from a single node Avamar server to an Avamar grid over the internet. The correct way to have them communicate would be through a VPN - you should never make them available with a public IP address on the open Internet.
The single node system would need to be able to communicate with all data nodes on the replication target just as if it were any other client backing up to the Avamar grid.
