Restore deleted account Exchange mailbox

We have tried to restore a deleted AD account Exchange mailbox but no data is restored.  We find the mailbox okay in the backup listing (with the deleted account info in it).  We then choose it and enter a different target mailbox address in the target mailbox option.  The job runs okay with any errors and seems to work okay.  However no data is returned, and no restored folder is created in the target mailbox.  Any ideas?

you have to have the exchange account recreated so it exist in exchange.

so you most likely see a (D) in front of the mailbox in the restore ( it means it knows its been deleted)

in the restore you need to go to the window where it has plug in type and if you want it to stay mounted after the restore

here it his a box for "Target Mailbox"  - because the NEW mailbox is not the original mail box (like it has a different CID)

you have to specify to go to the newly created mail box .

this then should work.

Thanks for the input.

We also found that you can restore it using Avamar to create the rdb database and then Exchange power shell commands to restore the required information to the redirected mailbox.

This method is not as efficient or as quick as just using Avamar it appears as you have to know the Exchange commands to use.  Support helped with that part.  We are working with them still to see if we can get it working through the GUI.

it is amazing how much you have to know about exchange when you do back ups and restores.

proper to avamar using the RDB was the only way.  I learned a lot of exchange commands.

I like the avamar gui option to just redirect from the start.

good luck
