If you are planning on upgrading to a 7.x client, then I would not uninstall your existing 5.x client. This will remove all of your hash and file caches which may have been optimized for your client. If you uninstall and reinstall the new version you will loose all of that information, and your first backups will take a long time because all of that would have to be rebuilt, and you will be performing a great deal of network traffic asking the server if existing data is present or not.

Instead just run the install MSI for the 7.0.102 client and you will maintain all of your cache files which will continue your backups to run quickly. Performing an uninstall removes everything which you do not want to do if you are still planning to backup this client with Avamar.

Sorry about that...the current version on that server is 5.0.105-169 and I want to install 7.0.102-43.  The OS is Windows 2003 Server R2 SP1.  I think I might go the clean way route since this is a prod server and it would be harder to do the other items suggested, thanks anyway.

You could help us by mentioning your version of the client, and your Operating system version. That said;

Clean way to do it:

- Open a service request with EMC and let them handle it.

Dirty way (the way I would do it):

- Create a system restore point

- Boot into safe mode

- Delete the program directories

- Run regedit, and delete all Avamar references

I would initially try to uninstall it using msiexec command, as I suppose msi package is not available I would try using the code GUID:

msiexec.exe /x {your-product-code-guid}

You can find the product code by perusing the registry from this base key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall . Press F3 and search for your product name. (If it's a 32-bit installer on a 64-bit machine, it might be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall instead).

If it does not work, I would give it a try to the new MS Fixit Tool:
