avamar 5, gen3, 2x1 - upgrade path

Hello,

The setup is: 2x1 (1 utility node, 2 storage nodes), avamar 5 on gen3 hardware.

Is it possible to upgrade to 7.1? If so, than how does the upgrade path look like? (5.0 -> 6.0 ->7.1 or is it possible to go directly to 7.1)

BR,

Andy

First on a side note, a 2 data node Non-RAIN configuration is a 1x2, not a 2x1. Also 1x2 does not mean 1 utility and  2 data nodes. the first digit indicates the dimensionality of combined servers, which was implemented in the Global Storage Area Network architecture, but never used. The Idea was that if you had 4 Grids all with 6 Data nodes, they could share a common distributed GSAN and would be a 4x6 Architecture. But that is old unrealized History. If you are interested in the subject or just want to induce sleep, research Distributed Hash Tables on wikipedia (Distributed hash table - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

I think you are asking if the 1x2 Non Rain Architecture is supported on Gen 3 with Avamar 7.1, correct?

The Answer is Yes. The Non-Rain Architecture is dependent on the hardware Platform which is supported on Gen 3.

However on Gen 4 and Gen 4s the Non-RAIN architecture is only supported in Single nodes, and AVE, not in a 1x2 configuration.

Hello,

Avamar 7.1 is supported on GEN3 hardware. You can not upgrade Avamar 5.0 to 7,1 directly. First upgrade to 6.1 and then upgrade to 7.1.

I hope this will be helpful for you.

Hello,

When you install solve desktop and create procedure to upgrade Avamar 5.x to Avamar 6.1, it does not ask how many storage nodes you have. So there should not be any issue if you have 1 utility node and 2 storage nodes. But it asks you if your ADS is at least GEN3 or not. Because 7.1 supports GEN3 and later version only.

Thank  you. But is 2x1 (1 utility node, 2 storage nodes) still supported on 7.1?
