Dell M630 PCIe backplane retrofit
Greetings, all. I purchased a Dell PowerEdge M630 blade server that supposedly can support PCIe SSDs (ExpressFlash / NVMe U.2 SSDs), but knowing it wasn't shipping with the correct backplane. I purchased a M630 PCIe backplane and am having issues physically connecting it to the motherboard. It looks as if the screw leads on the J_PERC(?) connector are stopping the backplane connector from seating correctly.
I see very vague references to a PCIe storage controller/extender card that might be needed, but other than the manual which only references its existence, I cannot find any additional information on it or how to purchase it. Can anyone confirm if any other parts are needed? Originally, the server shipped with a S130 PERC card and SAS backplane, but I've removed those 2 parts before attempting to install the PCIe backplane. Thanks!

Hi joscortech,
you're completely right, there is an extender card needed.
The part number is NWYNK (PCIE Gen3 Extender Modular Card, PWA,CTL,PCIE,G3,EXTDR,MDLR).
Install it like shown in the manual (https://dell.to/2TB0krv).

Thanks! Yes, that looks like exactly what's needed (even if it's priced disproportionately higher than other related components).

These are not available at Dell Germany.

Looks like this part is on global shortage. Our stocks are empty too, got a confirmation from our Point-of-Need team minutes ago.
Have you checked global sellers already? I found one here:
