AX150i , Powerpath 4.6.1 and BackupExec 11d

I have an issue with the powerpath and backupexec. When I installed Powerpath my backups went from 2.5gig/min to 70mb/min. I set up a test server to arrive at this conclusion. without powerpath I get great backup speeds, once installed backups slow to a crawl. Backing up the C: dir is still fast, it is only when it hits the d: San drive it slows.
I took off powerpath and used the microsoft approved version, however you dont get all the ports, due to licenses. Anyway the speed shot up to 1.8gig/min.
Is there something wrong with the powerpath 4.6.1?

If I put on powerpath 4.5.0 it works, i get 1875gb/min

I have an old AX100i and have had trouble with PP4.6.1 as well. I was just trying to setup a new machine on the unit and installed 4.6.1 allowing it to upgrade what I had(4.3 or something like that). This resulted in a continuous reboot cycle. I removed the partial 4.6.1 install, removed the older version, and tried a clean install(or as clean as I can manage on W2k3)...again with the continuous reboot cycle.

I read somewhere that someone had experienced this same issue and tried installing 4.5.0 followed by the 4.6.1 as an upgrade and it worked. I'm off to try that now.

Does anyone have any insight into this? It may well be a problem with my W2k3 install and I'm not opposed to rebuilding the servers...I would rather not go there but will if I have to.

Anyone using an ax150i with iscsi, should use the PowerPath 1.1, this is the only version that will work with Windows Server 2003 and Symantec BackupExec 11d.

Run pp 4.6.1 and make sure you choose "connected to AX system". Then go into powerpath and set the priority level to the highest for the backup job device path.


powermt set priority command.

You should rock then. If you don't choose connected to AX when installing powerpath the policy will not be set to optimal.
