CX300 without Standby Power Supply
Is it possible to use the CX 300 without the SPS.
We are using our old CX 300 as storage for our test environment.
It is our of warranty and only for testing purposes
The Navispheere manager is reporting a failure with the standby power supplies, seem to be due to a faulty battery pack.
As this is only for our testing, it would be possible to switch off write back cache and use the CX300 without and BBU.
Cabling isn't the problem, but the CX300 ist constantly alerting with this anoying beep sound.
Any advice would be appreciated.
best regards

You may not be able to silence the alarm if you removed the SPS either. And you definitely would not have write cache available.

Yes, i guess you can do this though it is highly recomended that we use SPS.
However as this array is off production, there is no harm in having the Clarrion with this config.
The basic functionality of an SPS is to supply power till the contents from the cache is flushed to the clariion in case of any power outage or such.

Yes, Rich is correct.
I forgot to mention about the write cache.
As Richard informed , our write cache status will be disabled.
But in our scenario, i dont think thats gonna make much of a diffrence at the box wont be handling that many I/Os.

Just checked in the lab on the CX300 and confirmed with the lab manager - there are no audible alarms in any of the CLARiiON arrays.
