CX4-120 iscsi transfer rate

Using CX4-120 with FC15k disks (RAID DP). The CX4-120 is attached to network trough iSCSI. I would like to know what kind of read rate I could obtain from a server (windows) with iSCSI LUN mounted on CX4. Has anyone an experience ?

In advance tahnk you

As this is a CX4, I'm assuming that you're using the 1GbE iSCSI connections. The theoretical bandwidth would be around 100MB/s.

This does not account for TCP overhead or network traffic and the number of hosts connected and the size of the IO or the balance of Reads vs Writes or the number of disks that a LUN is using or any number of other factors that will affect bandwidth.

There are some many variables that there really is no one number.

I'm not sure if the CX4-120 supports 10gig, but if it does, I'm using 10gig iscsi with jumbo frames on a CX4-480 and with some careful tuning I've been able to achieve close to 300 MB/sec sustained writes, 580 MB/sec sustained reads and an average of 11700 random iops.  This is on raid groups of 9+1 raid 5 and 16 kb pages, 1526 MB write cache, the rest read cache.

Just curious how you are running your tests.   I am having some performance issues also on a CX4-120 iscsi.

Re: CX4-120 iscsi transfer rate

Just curious how you are running your tests.   I am having some performance issues also on a CX4-120 iscsi.

My test specs were:

Centos 5.5 x86_64 guest

vmware tools installed

testing disk partition formatted ext4 and mounted on a paravirtual scsi adaptor

1 GB of guest memory assigned

I ran the tests with Bonnie++ from http://www.coker.com.au/bonnie++/ with a test data set size of 16 GB to ensure it would be large enough to not let the entire test be cached in the CX4's cache.
