Configuring ISCSI iniator for prefered target portal?
I was asked to check this out but I don't have an answer myself.
I have two windows boxes connected to our cx3-20.
In my ISCSI iniator I connected to A3 and B3 ports on the SAN. I succesfully connected to the two targets. My question is will both servers by default connect to the target on SPA or does it automatically load balance? If not where can you set this?
We are kind of redesigning and in a testing stage and we wonder what the best way is to go about this?
Also, We are planning to connect to SAN of a dedicated ISCSI subnet. Is there any use in connected all ports on both Storage processors up over the same network?

1. Is powerPath licensed or unlicensed?
If unlicensed, you can only connection one NIC on the host to one port on SPA and one port on SPB
If licensed powerpath, you can use two NICs and two paths for each NIC. Licensed powerpath will also support load balancing, but only with two NICs. Each NIC connected to SPA and SPB.
ex. NIC1 to SPA0 and SPB0 NIC2 to SPA1 and SPB1. Then when you access a LUN owned by SPA, you will send traffic down NIA to SPA0 and NIC2 to SPA1
2. The Micorosft iSCSI Initiator
You MUST specifically select a NIC IP address when you log in a Target. When you setup the Discovery section, put in one of the SP ports, the other three ports will be found. On the Targets tab you should see four paths not yet logged in. Highlight a path and click Login - on the next screen make sure to check the box to automatically restore connection on reboot (persistent binding) and check the multipath box if using PowerPath 4.6.1 or higher. The click the Advanced button and select each of the dropdowns to select the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator in the first one, the SPECIFIC IP ADDRESS of the NIC on the host in the second and the SP port in the third.
You can check this by looking on the Persistant Target tab - select an entry there and click on Details - look for the "Sourec IP" line and make sure it has the IP address of the NIC for that SP port.
Make sure that on the host that the local LAN NIC is the first bound NIC - go to the Network Properties and select Advanced/Advanced Settings and ensure that the local LAN NIC is in the top position and the iSCSI NIC's are below.
3. make sure that the iSCSI traffic (NICs, switches, cables) are in a separate subnet - if possible use separate switches - don't route if possible
