Disable Storage Pool Alert

Hi there,

we want to use Pool only we don't want to care about MetaLUN's. We also want to use Thick LUN's and fillup the Pool to as much capacity possible.

We further don't have any plans to expand LUNs. So because we are aware of this we don't want  the receive Storage Pool Alert's.

Does anyone know how to disable Storage Pool Alert's?

thx and rgds

I do not believe that you can disable this alert - you can submit an Enhancement Reqest on PowerLink

You might be able to find an entry in the email home template to do this but if you dont care about the pool filling up, just set the threshold from the default of 70% to 100%.  then it will only give you and error when it is all filled up.  By then, you should be having other issues with anu thin lun's you have carved in the pool since it doesnt have room to expand.

Thanks for your respond.

The highest value which can be set is 80% - and this is actually what is causing the "problem". We are aware that we fill-up to Pool's almost to 100% and don't need warnings. We don't us Thin LUN - we only use Thick LUN's!

By changing this in the call home template doesn't prevent the warning to sow up in the event log of the SP.

Once the pool reaches 85% Full, this triggers a built-in/hardcoded alert (and is independent of whether or not the event is enabled in the template).  At 85% you have reached the "Critical" level; however in your case, you understand the risk as it was intentional.  Unless someone else knows of a way to clear/disable this and responds, consider opening up a ticket with support to see if they have a solution.  At the very least, opening up an SR will at least document your use case.

This is mentioned also in the "EMC CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning" whitepaper available from PowerLink via the following breadcrumb trail (one of several paths):

Home > Products > Hardware/Platforms > CLARiiON CX4 Series > White Papers

Thanks for the provided information - we are aware of the fact's your describing.

As far I understand there is no way to switch this alerting off - I'll get in touch with EMC to confirm this.
