How many cables are needed

Hi Team,

We have 10 servers connected to 2 cisco MDS 9148 switches and in turn connected to NS480. On each cisco switch 16 ports are used for connecting to these 10 servers and SAN box. Each server has 2 HBA's with 4 paths going from 1 HBA to SP ports.   Please kindly help me to know how many cables are needed for connectivity, as we want to order new  cables.

Will look for the reply...

Regards,

Pranav.

Hi Pranav,

I believe that you are referring to FC cables, but please confirm the same. Also please let me know the following.

  • What service on the NS480 are the hosts accessing?
  • How many cables from the NS480 are now connected to the switches?
  • A rough Network diagram of the Scenario.
  • Could you also let me know why we are changing the cables.

Regards

You mentioned that 16 ports on each switch will be used for connecting the 10 servers and the storage array, so that makes 32 cables. FC patch cables, that is.

If you're using patch panels the number will be higher as each patch will go from switch to panel and from the corresponding panel to the server/storage.
