LUN expansion can be dynamically performed without data loss through the Navisphere Expand Storage Wizard.

In the Navisphere Manager Taskbar, select the Storage Management tab; click the Expand icon. 'Striped' is the recommended expansion method.

Navisiphere Help supports the process.

Note that LUN expansion is really MetaLUN creation 'under the hood'. You can find high-level information on LUN expansion and MetaLUNs in the "EMC CLARiiON Storage System Fundamentals for Performance and Availability". In addition, the "EMC CLARiiON Best Practices for Performance and Availability, FLARE Revision 28.5" contains a more detailed discussion on MetaLUNs. Both of these documents are available on PowerLink.

I know this is a pretty old document, but here is a guide that goes through the concept of the Metalun. Of course use the latest Best Practices guide for planning and doing, but to understand what you are creating go though this guide:

Also, once created on the Clariion side the host will probably not see the extra space right away. You need to first make sure on the host side you know what to do when the extra space is there from the Clariion, or even if you can add space or not to the lun (think there was something with HP that didn't let you expand a device.)

Of course there are also host limitations to worry about. I had a customer one time expand a lun beyond 2TBs and his Windows host couldn't see it because the OS didn't support it. Luckily a Windows service pack fixed this but the data was un-available until they could figure out the problem with the host.
