Need to replace all disks in one of our cages

We have a CX3-10c with 3 drive cages. One of the drive cages is full of 2TB SATA drives. We are going to replace all of the SATA drives with 400GB SAS drives. We have removed all of the LUNs and RAID Groups from the SATA disks. We have swapped out individual drives but not 15 drives at one time. Is there any special procedure for doing such a major swap?

Thanks,

Jay

nothing special, just make sure there are no LUNs, raid groups, hot spares using those drives. Also make sure you meet minimum flare requirements.

yes, 400 GB SAS drives are not supported in CX4 in my understanding also . But as per primus emc296193,  3 TB SAS drives are supported in CX4 series ( dynamox, I also noticed this primus recently only   )

SAS drives? SAS drives are not supported in CX3/4 (as far as i know). Look at this support matrix for supported drives

Dynamox and Vipin V.K,

Thanks for the quick replies. I put the wrong drive type. I meant to put 400GB FC drives. Any special instructions for this big swap out?

Thanks,

Jay

And since you cannot have both SATA and FC in the same DAE, you need to remove all drives before putting the new ones in.

dynamox (or anyone),

I am planning to swap the disks out tomorrow. I logged in to the SAN today using Service Manager but noticed it only gives me the option to swap out disks that have faulted. Is there anything special in Service Manager I need to do before I start pulling the SATA disks? Or, can I start pulling the SATA disks and then once they are all out insert the FC disks? Or, once the SATA disks are out is there something in Service Manager that I need to do to add the FC disks?

Thanks,

Jay

nothing to do in USM, take all drives out and then start inserting FC disks (i like to insert one at a time and give it a minute to spin up before proceeding to the next one).
