SAN Copy /Incremental
We are planning to migrate 5 TB of data from one clariion to another clariion using SAN Copy. The host is VMware and needs to be online during the Migration. So for sucessfull migration can i follow these steps
1) Validate the Zones and Connections between the two clariions
2) Configure the reserved lun pool ( 20% of the source lun).
3) create the San copy session using incremtanl option
4) wait till 100 % data is copied to the destination lun
5) during the final cutover shutdown the VMware hosts and run again the incremental session again .
6) Copy done.
Please clarify are these steps good for an online incremental SAN copy session. If yes can any one tell me difference in step 3 and step 5. Do we use different commands or just use the same commands for step 3 and step 5. Please correct me if anything is missing.

your regular and final incremental would be as simple as this:
NaviSeccli.exe -user Aadmin -password password -scope 0 -address 10.1.8.30 sancopy -start -name Lun546to19C8

Thanks Dynamox. I am learning so much from you.... I dont know if i am asking this question in the correct thread or not. Before i can start the SAN Copy session we need to create LSAN zones. One of our team member created the lsan zones in the below way.
Source CHA-A
Zone Name :lsan_Cla_3658_spa0_spb0_Cla_0568_spa0_spb0
50:06:01:60:39:a0:2a:15 EXIST
50:06:01:68:39:a0:2a:15 EXIST
50:06:01:60:39:a0:10:d5 Configured
50:06:01:68:39:a0:10:d5 Configured
CHA -B
Zone Name :lsan_Cla_3658_spa1_spb1_Cla_0568_spa1_sp1
50:06:01:61:39:a0:2a:15 EXIST
50:06:01:69:39:a0:2a:15 EXIST
50:06:01:61:39:a0:10:d5 Configured
50:06:01:69:39:a0:10:d5 Configured
On the Target side also the LSAN Zones were created in the same way. What i observed is the lsan zone information on the source Brocade Router side was propagated to Broaced fabric on the source side but the LSAN Zone info on the target Brocade Router side is not propagated into the target Brocade fabric. Becuase of this i was not able to establish a SAN copy session between two clariion arrays. Can anyone please tell me if the LSAN Zones are configured properly or not.

glad to help
I would ask your Brocade/zoning question in the infrastructure section of this forum.

Dynamox,
I was able to create the LSAN zones sucessfully.
1) Created a storage group on the target and added the lun .
2) Updated SAN Copy connections on the target side Storage group was able to see the Source clariion SPA and SPB..
3) Created a SAN copy session. (was created successfully)
4) When i am trying to start the session using copywholelun -nomark option the command is failing and i am getting the below error
naviseccli -h 10.71.229.112 sancopy -start -name SANcopy_test -copywholelun -nomark all
sancopy command failed
error returned from agent.
Copy session has destination error.
Any suggestions ...

1. do you have luns in the reserve lun pool?
2. does it work using the GUI wizard?
3. are your commands targeting the correct SP?

Dynamox,
I Have 2 questions?
I'm having considerable time gap and large amount of data being changed between Initial session starting with -copywholelun -nomark all option and Final Cut Over with Host shutdown, can I safely start session with regular option 2 as mentioned below as many time as I want and data will be consistent?
1.Start Incremental SAN Copy session while host is online
NaviSeccli.exe -h sancopy -start -name -copywholelun -nomark all
2.Start a regular session once above session is completed(Inconsistent) to reduce the time required to finish Final Push of Changed data.
NaviSeccli.exe -h sancopy -start -name
3.Shutdown Host and complete Final Push.
NaviSeccli.exe -h sancopy -start -name
Is there any way to find How much Data is changed after starting session with -copywholelun -nomark all option?
Thanks

Hi Dynamox,
Sorry for posting this and eating your time, as this is an old post.......
I have got 3 questions ...
1) If a SAN Copy will fail what will happen to the sessions, when it's restarted, will it be Full Copy or incremental ?
2) If it is incremental, what are the pre-requisites to make it incremental...we need license for that (if i am not mistaken) and what else ?
3) Which ports are reserved for it in VNX & clariion & how many zones are recommended ?
Thanks in advance

1) should be incremental, SANCopy tracks what gets transferred to target device.
2) as long as SANCopy is licensed on source array, you are good to go. You don't need a separate license for SnapView.
3) you can use any ports for SANCopy as long as they are not the same ports used for MirrorView. How many you zone it's up to you, need to have at least on zone from each source SP zoned to SPA and SPB on target array, ie:
Fabric A
zone1-VNX1-SPA0-VNX2-SPA0
zone2-VNX1-SPA1-VNX2-SPB2
zone3-VNX1-SPB2-VNX2-SPA1
zone4-VNX1-SPB3-VNX2-SPB3
Fabric B
zone1-VNX1-SPA2-VNX2-SPA2
zone2-VNX1-SPA3-VNX2-SPB0
zone3-VNX1-SPB0-VNX2-SPA3
zone4-VNX1-SPB1-VNX2-SPB1

Is it required to shutdown the source host when we do a full SAN copy?

not for push, will need to shutdown for final push.
