Web service API to manage clariion storage
Hi,
For one of the client engagement, i am exploring the clariion capabilities in terms of integration by the external applications.
I mean, I want to manage the clariion storage using WEB APIs. Does it provide external apis? if so provide me the link to download. I want to know what can be done using the external api interface.
I appreciate your response.
Thank You,
Hari

Hi Hari,
Looks like you are looking for some third party Clariion management softwares. From EMC we recommend ECC(Control Center). I also know about some software like star wind in which i think you have do a bit of research yourself.

EMC Ionix (formerly known as Control Center) is a array management software with the help of it you can manage different types of Storage System and perform masking.
For information on it, you can go to powerlink.emc.com
Home > Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads C > ControlCenter 6.x
http://www.emc.com/collateral/software/data-sheet/h1082-controlcenterswfam-ds.pdf
Starwind has differnt types of product to manage right from Storage Virtualization, Backup and Recovery to Business Applications.
http://www.starwindsoftware.com/
As far as web based .API is concerned Unisphere itself is a Web Broswer based application which runs from the array where as Unisphere Off array Manager is a software which you can install on a host and connect to a storage system.
If you are looking for some custom API's then client might need to hire developers to create the custom web based API's. If there are multiple storage system involved I would go for EMC Ionix (control center) rather than investing on a custom api. but again, it depends on a client requirement.
However, I would suggest to consult with your EMC Area Sales Manager and discuss the options depending on your client requirement.

Ankit & Rahul,
Thanks for your valuable replies. The client has many storage systems across the globe and these storages systems are from different vendors (EMC, NetApp, Hitachi). Due to this he has vendro specific softwares to monitor and manage their storage systems. This is the big pain point for the customer. He want a solution which can do like below;
a) A single application/software which can talk to vendor specific softwares to discover all storage systems in his datacenter across the globe.
b) Able to interact each storage system to know the utilization of all vendor storage systems.
c) etc......
To provide the solution, i need to know EMC,NetApp and other vendor software capabilities in terms external apis. How well these softwares facilities api interfacing so that it can be integrated by other application....
I got to know NetApp provides Manageability SDK to manage their storage systems. I am exploring on it.
Likewise i believe EMC control center will also provide SDK/api interfacing to 3rd party applications.
If i know the capabilities of all these vendors, i can provide some solution to the customer how i can able to address his pain points. It could be even development from our side(since we are int IT consulting & Service).
I am even interested, if any ready mande software is available which can able to discover, monitor and manage all vendor storage system in the market. We are considering this option also.
Looking at these lines, in EMC control center provides any API integrations, please provide me their capability list, Also if i can able to download the SDK, that will be helpful to us. So that we can do POCs for more understanding of their capabilities.
Thank You,
Hari

Hi Hari,
I completely understand what you want! I guess I had answered that earlier in forums.
The client is looking for a Web based interface for all the Storage Devices he has worldwide. I am not sure but I am not aware of any such software which provides a single interface to manage different vendor storage systems, moreover developing such application would not be cost effective and might require elite and dedicated developer team or you can contact Starwind and who knows they might help you for creating a web based solution!
Did you read that Ionix Document? It states that it supports all the EMC Products and yes, It must be running on some SDK or engine. However, I am not sure that EMC provides that to the customers or not! You might need to involve Area Sales Manager for further clarification as I mentioned earlier.
Do let us know how it goes!
