multipathing weirdness and/or admin doesnt know what he is doing
hello,
i have a strange multipathing issue. here is a rundown of the situation:
im working with an emc cx4-120. i have to esxi4.1 hosts configured using the software iscsi adapter.
i followed the 'multivendor post on using iscsi' found here: "

the issue is that host1 sees 8 paths to the datastores whereas host2 sees 12 paths to the datastores.
everything is configured properly as far as i can tell. has anyone seen this before and/or can any provide any insight?

Sometimes a rescan on the ESX host will fix that. If that doesnt work you can also remove that host from the storage group and readd it. are these new hosts? new SAN deployment?

upon furhter review it appears that the discrepency is with the # of targets each host sees. host1 sees 8 targets host2 sees 12 targets. i only have 8 luns in my storage group that the two hosts are connected too. is there a way to get more info on what each target is ?? i appreciate the responses.

you should have 4 paths per lun so what i see is that host1 may only be seeing 2 lun's while host2 see's 3 lun's. how many lun's are you presenting to the ESX cluster?
I say 4 paths if you have it zoned per best practice. host has 2 HBA ports with each port zoned to see a port on both storage processors.

How many iSCSI ports do you have on the array?

removed host from storage group. rescan'd . boom . done. much obliged .

i've tried the rescan about 1220 times but no dice.
yes this is a new vsphere infrastructure from the ground up. hosts, storage array, etc.
i will go ahead and try to remove the host from the storage group. ill report back after doing so . thanks again!
