IBM TSM and NDMP VBB

Hi,

does any of the TSM users here know if TSM now supports NDMP VBB ?

I know the issues was that TSM couldnt pass NDMP variables - has that changed ?

thanks

we've been looking at upgrading our TSM instance to 6.1 so I've been looking through admin guides/release notes. I don't see any new/changed functionality when it comes to NDMP.

If you want to peruse TSM 6.x docs it's here

Hi dynamox,

thanks for the link.

I'll go pester the IBM TSM product manager as well - maybe if enough customers ask for it they would consider implementing NDMP variables :-)

what are the benefits of using VBB ? I think TSM is using standard ndmp dump so it's still block level right ?

VBB is block based.

TSM is using standard NDMP which is file based (tar and dump like).

TSM does not work with Celerra NDMP environment variables, so you cannot run the Celerra NVB (VBB) feature.  As of today, the only Celerra NDMP feature available for TSM is the Integrated Checkpoint feature.

FYI,

I've contacted the IBM TSM product manager and its not supported and not on the roadmap.

Since this isnt something that EMC can implement I would suggest that TSM customers that want to use Celerra NMDP VBB let their IBM reps know.
