NDMP Connection to Switch

Hello All ,

I am having a problem in connecting the NAS to my SAN switches .I have done earlier twice but its  new problem i encountered.

Its a NS480  with 2 sides , one acting as primary other as secondary .

I am connecting AUX0 and AUX1 of the primary blade to the SAN switches , and when i try doing this GREEN light lits on the NAS but nothing comes on the switch end.At one point it did come but when i was trying to get the other one up and did a swap  , the one working also went down. Now , i have tried all the possibilities but not able to get any thing up on the switches .

Only on the NAS side A GREEN lights , On the BLADE side NO lights( switch side) . Note , the port 3/24 was showin up at one time .

I have connected the AUX 0,1 with FC modules goin to switches. Can any one please help me troubleshoot this ?

The Cable looks good, also i have tried using other ports as well.

Thanks for you time !

try to reset AUX ports

.server_config server_x -v "fcp portreset=2"

.server_config server_x -v "fcp portreset=3"

The resetting of AUX ports on the data mover should help -  you may consider resetting the Switch ports as well along with the data movers port.

you don't need to license anythign for aux ports to login to the switch.  Have you tried different patch cables ? Shut/ no shut switch ports

Thanks Sandip and Dynamox - I tried both the ways , Doing a reset  on the NAS ports as well as the switch ports.

It still not working. Could Fiber modules be the culprit. Either they are both bad or they are not licensed for this device?

I am just suspecting . Please suggest ..The Light status is same what i mentioned earlier . I checked the modules on the switch end and there is a red beam light in each so I’m assuming those are ok. .

Dynamox , I reseat the port   "portCfgDefault 4/24" ( even tried other free ports in that blade ) and  have tried numerous new and used  cables with different scenarios and no connection to the switch can be made.

Rainer--

2 spf's were already in the NAS and to two I robed from another NAS box we have running here that werent being used. the 2 i robbed i could see the red beam o light in the module while installed. but when I put them into the problem NAS no red beam of light could be seen. so I don't think it is the spf's

Dynamox-  I am connecting   primary DM  AUX 0 - > switch A  and  Aux 1 - > switch B

So if I reboot the standby , would that help ? or you want me to do the connection to Stanby and then do a reboot on it. I am willing to check that as well .

Not sure , i will check with the guys if that matters at all , but four SFPs going bad , like you said, is highly unlikely.

What could be the reason then > please suggest !!! , i tried every thing i know , i guess

I highly doubt you have 4 bad SFPs ..where did you get these SFPs from ?

Maybe they are the wrong SFP’s ?
