Regarding usermapper database in VNX.

Hi,

I am migrating a VDM from one of the Celerra NS-40  to VNX8000.  The user mapper database already exists in the VNX box. What will happen if I export and import the Usermapper database from NS-40 to VNX8000. Will it get updated or over-written?

Please let me know the procedure.

Thanks,

Sivas.

If User A is using UNIX ID 33400 in the Usermapper on the NS40, and UNIX UID 33400 is in use by another user in the Usermapper file on the VNX8000, after importing the Usermapper file from the NS40, User A will have new UNIX ID in the VNX8000's Usermapper file.

If you're migrating from the NS40 to the VNX8000 using VNX Replicator, Replicator does not change the UID in the filesystem, so be prepared to take action after the replication. You'll need either an external method (EMCOPY, PowerShell setACL, etc.) to change ACLs, or consider changing the UNIX ACLs in the filesystem (not recommended).

If the conflict list is very small, EMCOPY with /SECFIX is very quick!
