Storage pool "clar_r5_performance" visible, but can't create filesystems

Hello,

in our NS20 we have two storage pools available "clarata_archive" and "clar_r5_performance". I can create filesystems from the archive pool, but now i want to create one from the r5-pool.
Strange, this don't show up in the list of available storage when clicking "New" on filesystems and i don't know why...

[nasadmin@cel1cs ~]$ nas_pool -size -all
id = 3
name = clar_r5_performance
used_mb = 0
avail_mb = 0
total_mb = 0
potential_mb = 0

id = 10
name = clarata_archive
used_mb = 3170000
avail_mb = 5218604
total_mb = 8388604
potential_mb = 0

do you have fibre channel drives in this unit ? Do you have ns20 fibre channel enabler installed as well ..where you use this NS20 as regular Clariion too ?

Hi dynamox,

I have same issue but its little different. I can create new filesystem from "clar_r5_performance" but if i want to use other LUN which i have created through Navisphere, i can't see it in Celerra Manager.

Please assist...

nas_diskmark -all -discovery y should do the job. After that nas_diskmark -list -all should show the missing disks.

Olivier,

there are no FC-Drives configured for NAS data in your box, but only ATA Drives.
I assume there have been FC Luns for NAS available in the past which have been removed.

So Filesystems can only be created on the clarata_archive pool.

whats your Celerra model (nas/sbin/model) ?

most common reasons why Celerra wouldnt "recognize" disks

- HLU is below 16
- RAID type or size not supported by Celerra
- didnt run Scan Storage from GUI or server_devconfig from CLI
- wrong zoning or not in Celerra storagegroup
- there is a problem with the Clariion (failed over SP's, broken RAIDs)

see http://corpusweb130.corp.emc.com/ns/common/post_install/Config_storage_FC_NaviManager.htm

Hi Rainer,

Our Celerra model is NS20FC.

HLU is below 16
Please tell me HLU stands for and its recommendations. Will update you accordingly

RAID type or size not supported by Celerra
We use RAID 5 and RAID 1

didnt run Scan Storage from GUI or server_devconfig from CLI
Already RUN it.

wrong zoning or not in Celerra storagegroup
We have add the specific LUN to Celerra Storage Group but same issue. If we use CLARiiON only it is working fine.

there is a problem with the Clariion (failed over SP's, broken RAIDs)
There is no problem on CLARiiON like Failed SPs or broken RAIDs

HLU stands for Host Lun ID, aka Host ID

RAID type or size not supported by Celerra
We use RAID 5 and RAID 1

Raid5, most common is a 4+1 disk type
Lun size must be smaller than 2 TB

HLU is also called Host ID

Basically the Clariion assigns a unique LUN number (ALU) for each LUN that is used internally.
For each LUN in a storagegroup also a host ID (HLU) is configured - thats the LUN number that the SAN client actually see's (like a SCSI ID)
This is because you want to use the same LU number with different clients
By default the HLU's start low, but the Clerra reserves 0-15 for its system (OS) LUNs so any data LUNs need to be 16 or higher

see the attached PDF or the link I've quoted on how to change it

RAID type or size not supported by Celerra
We use RAID 5 and RAID 1

number of drive in the raidgroup also matters.
Celerra likes 4+1R5 or 8+1R5 for 1+1R1 for FC disks
plus 6+1R5 for ATA

Also, if possible create at least least two LUNs per RG with balancing across SP's
Adding more than one RG at the same time is also preferable to just one by one

Hi Peter,

We are having same configurations which you have mentioned.
Our HLU is below 16 we have also checked with HLU above 16

all other configurations are:

Raid5 with 4+1 disktype.
All FC Drives
LUN Size is 1GB, 2GB or 500GB but same problem.

please configure the LUNs whith HLU larger than 15 and post the output of

server_devconfig ALL -c -s -a

nas_storage -c -all

/nas/sbin/navicli -h SPA storagegroup -list

nas_disk -l

You need a HLU >= 16 decimal or x10, celerra will not use HLU less than 16!

create two equal sized luns out of your 4+1 raid5 FC raidgroup, one lun with SPA as default owner, the other with SPB as default owner.

run Scan Storage from GUI or server_devconfig from CLI
