celerra standalone server mode
I'm testing out using the standalone server option in celerra.
I can create the standalone server just fine using
server_cifs server_2 -add standalone=kyindstd02,workgroup=workgroup,interface=10-163-220-29-test,local_users
It prompts for a password and I supply one but then trying to access it, I get told that I need to change the password;
I have a windows 7 workstation in workgroup mode and try to change the password by doing a ctrl-alt-del and change password option but it's not working.
I'm stymied and don't know what else to try. thanks for any help.
net use \\10.163.220.29 /user:administrator
The password or user name is invalid for \\10.163.220.29.
Enter the password for 'administrator' to connect to '10.163.220.29':
System error 1907 has occurred.
The user's password must be changed before logging on the first time.

A standalone CIFS servers administrator password HAS TO BE CHANGED from a Windows computer BEFORE it can be used after creation – see the CIFS manual
I’ve heard comments that people had challenges using Windows 7 for that – I suggest to use a Windows XP box (for now)
It doesn’t matter whether its in workgroup mode or part of a domain – it makes things simpler though if its in the same subnet so that it can easily resolve the CIFS servers name

on Win 7 go to Start > Windows Security > Change a Password. Top field enter cifsservername\Administrator and then old and new password

rainer, you are correct! using a win7 desktop wouldn't let me change the password but a windows xp desktop would. I didn't need to be on the same subnet.
thanks for vmware view because I no longer have a physical xp desktop available.
