Thanks Ronan!

When I am trying to set 100 years of retention,it is successful.

But when I try to set 1000 years, i am getting following error. Do you have any idea?

THREAD: main; MSG: [DM_CONTENT_E_MIGRATE_CONTENT_ROLLBACK]error:  "Migration rolled back due to errors."; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: DfException:: THREAD: main; MSG: [DM_CONTENT_E_MIGRATE_CONTENT_ROLLBACK]error:  "Migration rolled back due to errors."; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: DfException:: THREAD: main; MSG: [DM_CONTENT_E_MIGRATE_CONTENT_MIGRATION_FAILED]error:  "Migration of content 06008f4780111b92 failed."; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: DfException:: THREAD: main; MSG: [DM_STORAGE_F_NO_CONTENT_STORAGE_OR_ARCHIVE_SERVICE_LICENSE]fatal:  "A Content Storage or Archive Services license is required to configure a storage object for compression and content duplication prevention"; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: null

I don't know whether it is a licensing issue or something else

Hi Aditi,

Yes, a document can have 1000 years of retention - see a description of the CLI command to do this and an example:

create retention
Syntax create retention
Role The compliance role is required to perform this command.
Use This command creates a retention period class and sets the length of
the retention period.
Output create retention
WARNING: Once activated, a retention period class cannot
be deleted without returning your Centera to EMC
manufacturing and deleting ALL existing data on your
cluster.
Are you sure that you want to create this retention
period class?
(yes, no) [no]:
Description ◆ Name: Name to give to the retention period class. The name can
contain a maximum of 255 characters and must not contain the
following characters ' " / & < > or . The
retention class is a symbolic representation of the retention period
and enables changes to be made to a C-Clip without modifying
the C-Clip itself.
◆ Period: Length of time you want to set the retention period class
to. This can be in minutes, days, weeks, months, or years. A
retention period is the time that a data object has to be stored
before an application is allowed to delete it.
The following errors are displayed:
◆ If the name of the retention period class already exists the
following error will be displayed:
• Error: The specified retention class already exists.
◆ The update retention command may be used to change the
retention period.
The retention period values can be entered in any combination of
units of years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The

default unit is seconds. The value infinite is also allowed.

Example:

Config# create retention 1000_years 1000 years
WARNING: Once activated, a retention period class cannot be deleted without returning your Centera to EMC
manufacturing and deleting ALL existing data on your cluster.
Are you sure that you want to create this retention period class?
(yes, no) [no]: yes
Issue the command?
(yes, no) [no]: yes

Config# show retention all

Retention class name          Period
---------------------------------------------------
1000_years                    1000 years
---------------------------------------------------

... Im not sure. I just googled that error and found this:

NO_CONTENT_STORAGE_OR_ARCHIVE_SERVICE_LICENSE  "A Content Storage or  Archive Services license is required to configure a storage object for  compression and content duplication prevention"
;
; CAUSE: User specified a non-zero value for compression_mode or
; content_dupl_pref attribute while creating a storage
; object, but there is no valid CSS or AS license configured for the respository.
;
; ACTION: Contact EMC Technical support to purchase a CSS or AS license.

...so maybe it is a licencing issue.

Hi

Looks like Documentum stuff to me. Do you have the content services for Centera License and such installed? Then connected to Centera?

I have Centera in UAT as well in Prod.

I tried to archive a document so that it will expire in year '2999' (i.e. retention is of 989 years), which is 1 less than 3000. The test was successful.

If I try to set the year 3000 or above , then I am getting the error.

Is it possible that centera is not allowing me to do so. Because in documentum I can set the date with 3000 as year.

Should a customer invest in a Centera box in 2010, and sets 100 years as the retention period? i believe the Centera box will probably be end of life maximum in 10years, what guarantee can he have for him to have access to his data at the 40th year?
