Accessing Data Replicated and Displayed to the Hyperv

Hello,

I currently have an SCv2020 with an asynchronous configuration with another SCv2020.

In these SCv2020 there are LUNs with virtual server data hosted on Hyperv 2012 R2.

I want to use the data from SCv2020 (Replica) that is receiving replication to import the virtual machines into on the new Hyperv server that will be used for DR.

I also have a physical server running Windows 2012 R2 and SQL 2012, writing database data to a LUN also on SCv2020 that is replicating to the other SCv2020.

Doubts:

1- I read that I need the (Replay Manager) to guarantee the integrity. Is it really necessary? In what situation do I need to use it?

2 - We will reconfigure the SCv2020 from asynchronous to synchronize, to ensure that the data is updated in real time, but I need to know if there is any procedure or configuration that will ensure that I can access the data that will be replicated and use it.

3 - The LUN that is presented to the physical server with SQL, I will have to submit to a virtual server in Hyperv. Is there a procedure or tool from Dell Compelent to ensure the integrity of the process?

4 - I understand that at the moment before accessing the data, ie connecting the VMs in Hyperv that is accessing the LUNs of the SCv2020 (Replica) I will have to turn off the synchronization, right?

Thank you.

1- I read that I need the (Replay Manager) to guarantee the integrity. Is it really necessary? In what situation do I need to use it? You can read over this document to compare back up options: Dell SC Series Snapshots and SQL Server Backups Comparison https://downloads.dell.com/solutions/storage-solution-resources/SQL%20Server%20Backups%20vs%20SC%20Series%20Snapshots(CML1121).pdf Replay Manager works with VSS on the SQL server to pause I/O to take a consistent snapshot for recovery purposes. If you do not pause I/O then there is a chance the data will not be available. 2 - We will reconfigure the SCv2020 from asynchronous to synchronize, to ensure that the data is updated in real time, but I need to know if there is any procedure or configuration that will ensure that I can access the data that will be replicated and use it. Please refer to Dell SC Series Storage: Synchronous Replication and Live Volume http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20439310 https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_software/esuprt_it_ops_datcentr_mgmt/general-solution-resources_white-papers7_en-us.pdf This should answer many of your questions. 3 - The LUN that is presented to the physical server with SQL, I will have to submit to a virtual server in Hyperv. Is there a procedure or tool from Dell Compelent to ensure the integrity of the process? I am familiar with the Storage Side, but I checked and found this document: P2V Server Migration using Double-Take Move 6.0 https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln310457/p2v-server-migration-using-double-take-move-60?lang=en 4 - I understand that at the moment before accessing the data, ie connecting the VMs in Hyperv that is accessing the LUNs of the SCv2020 (Replica) I will have to turn off the synchronization, right? You will need to map a View Volume from a Volume Snapshot in order to map the data to the destination site

Hello Sandro Silva Alves,

  1. You need to have replay manager installed and running so that you can use the replicated data on your second SCv2020.
  2. When using Synchronous replication there are two modes HA mode and HC mode. If you look on page 670 of the administrator guide it explains the differences. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_administrator-guide_en-us.pdf When using synchronous replication, you will set up your quality of service (QoS) definition.  Quality of service (QoS) definition must be set up for the replication.  If you look on page 667 of the administrator guide it explains how to configure definition.
  3. Here is the link to replay manager administrator guide & if you look on page 73 we have our best practices for SQL. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_administrator-guide11_en-us.pdf
  4. You will want to look on page 75 of replay manager administrator guide for the best practice data recovery for VMware.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
