Zonning Aix host and cx-380 thru MDS 9506 switches
Currently I have an AIX host with 2 hbas - fcs0 and fcs1. Fcs0 runs to my mds1 switch while fcs1 runs to mds2. The hosts are connected on port 1/1 of each switch while the cx380 ports are connect on ports 2/1 through 2/4 of each switch.
The top blade is a 1/2 GBs FC 32 ports The second module is 1/2 GBs FC 16 Ports. Typically we put the hosts on the 32 port blade and the storage on the 16 port blade.
I am getting a second cx-380 soon. Some of the extremely high IO file systems will be moved to the new cx. I plan on connecting the new cx to ports to 2/5 - 2/8 on each switch - spa0, spb0, spa1, spb1 would go to mds1 while spa2, spb2, spa3, spb3 would go to the second switch.
For this AIX host I would zone fcs0 to spa0 and spb0 on mds1. I would zone fcs1 to spa2 and spb2 on mds2. Also remember that fcs1 and fcs2 are already zoned to multiple SP ports on the first cx-380 via the same switch ports.
Is this a good strategy or should I change something? I would be nice to have 2 hbas zoned to the first cx and 2 additonal hbas going to the new cx via new mds ports. Unfortunately I only have the 2 hbas.
Thanks - Brad
