DELL Power vault_MD3420 - Virtual disk not on preferred path error.
Hello Friends,
We have DELL MD3420 Power vault device with 2 SSD and 4 HDD. We've got an error message saying " Virtual disk not on preferred path". Can anyone please explain what is it ?
Found below recovery step on the internet,
Redistribute virtual disks manually can fix this issue.
My doubt is that, this storage device has database running 24x7. Doing above recommandation wont distrub my database ? Whether any downtime or restart required if i Redistribute virtual disks manually ?
Please advise to clear this error.

Will it affect the configuration as well as the data in there?

Hi Josh,
Can this upgrade / activate during office hour? Cause when i do the pre-check, it state that the storage array must not be the receive I/O. what does that mean?

It is better for after hours. It won’t be accessible while the failover happens and could lose writes if there is something in the controller cache.

Hello l00lamos,
Thanks for the logs. What I can see is that you have 2 sas connections on controller 0. However, I am not seeing any sas cables connected to controller 1. This is the reason that you are getting the error. You will need to add cables to controller 1 so that your host can see it. If you can’t and anymore sas cables, then you will need to change the owner of the virtual disks to controller 0.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
