I have one running with a 2012 R2 cluster, though firmware is newer (07.35.39.64)

Hello Coxie1011,
Officially the MD3000 is not supported to work with windows 2012. Now there are multiple customers that have gotten the MD3000 seen by making sure that your MD3000 is running the latest version of firmware of 07.35.39.64.
