Using VNX disk on a Data Domain
My Manager has come up with the idea that we can use disk trays from our newly decommissioned VNX5300 on our Data Domain 860.
The Googles seem to think he's nuttier then squirrel poo, but have any of you heard of this. Or better, seen any documentation on how it's done?

Hey David,
DDOS won't even let you. DD Shelves have specific firmware that DDOS checks against. You're better off using those shelves as leverage for a trade in. I don't have documentation on this per se, I've just been through this a couple times.
Thanks,
-Ed

Its sort of what I assumed, But I figured I'd ask.
Now I just have to convince him he's nuts.

Here's a simple way to convince your boss: The VNX disks will be formatted in such a way that the Data Domain will not recognize them. The DD doesn't give you a "format" command that will refactor the disks, so you can't reset the disk geometry or erase the protected areas. It's the same reason why an off-the-shelf disk won't work in either product. Hopefully, it's as simple as telling him that!
