What happens to a VTL when the filesystem is bounced?

We are about to initiate a Data Domain storage migration to move off of an ES20 disk shelf. The DD is being used as a VTL . The details of a storage migration indicate that the admin gets to select finalize if using GUI or admin must run CLI to finalize the migration. The finalize step causes DDos to do a filesys restart. What happens to the VTL with the filesystem bounce? Should one do a "vtl disable" or is the whole filesystem bounce transparent to a VTL?

There should be no need to do anything from the DD side due to the FS restart to finalize the storage migration.

Your backup application however would probably be much happier if the backups were stopped and any tapes unmounted from the VTL tape drives in advance.

Essentially - much like rebooting a physical tape library.

HTH - Regards,

Jonathan
