ReadCSVFile not working

All my attempts to get the ReadCSVFile feature to return data to a simple report just don't work. I see others have asked and answered questions from several years ago, but is this feature really supposed to work in version 6.1? I've tried many variances in the file itself, and in the settings in the Exxternal ReadCSV Data Source parameters, and all I get is "no data", or the report runs forever and never finishes.

Is it supposed to be possible to simply read a list from a file, and make it appear as a report?

Any reply would be appreciated. Even if I'm nuts!
