Difference between OME and OMIVV?

Whats the difference between these both solutions? We have three PE720 as ESX Hosts and three PE720 with baremetal Windows. All with iDRAC7 Enterprise and I want to know which solutions is better for me.

Hi MB.FISCHER,

Thanks for the query.

OpenManage Essentials(OME) is web based 1-to-many systems management console which installs on windows operating system and can manage hosts with esxi, windows, linux OS both in-band as well as out-of-band.
See en.community.dell.com/.../1989.openmanage-essentials for more details about OME.

The OpenManage Integration for VMware vCenter (OMIVV) is designed to streamline the management processes in your data center environment by allowing you to use VMware vCenter to manage your entire server infrastructure - both physical and virtual.
OMIVV helps in hardware monitoring, configuration, deployment on ESXI hosts managed by VMWare VCenter providing single glass of pane.
See en.community.dell.com/.../1961.openmanage-integration-for-vmware-vcenter for more details about OMIVV.

So if you are already managing ESX hosts with VCenter, then OMIVV will enable hardware monitoring also inside the Vcenter.
OME is a free tool and can help you manage all the servers irrespective of the operating systems on the host.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,
Vijay.

Even if you do not have OMIVV, you are still able to monitor hardware status via vCenter, assuming you have OMSA / iSM probably installed (VIBs to individual host or via VMware Update Manager).

In addition, OMIVV can roll out firmware to Dell's hardware.

In addition, OMIVV is a paid solution. (Not sure if there is free tier usage)
