OME Catalog downloads.dell.com FTP site working OK ?

Hello Everyone,

Would someone please confirm that the default "System Updates catalog" FTP server within OME is currently working OK ?

ftp://downloads.dell.com/catalog

Seems to have stopped working within the past day or so for us... reporting "Unable to connect to remote server error"

  • A manual FTP session to this host also fails
  • In a browser; http://downloads.dell.com/catalog is working OK...
  • A manual FTP session to another site ftp.ins.dell.com seems to connect OK

I have confirmed no firewall blocking issues or other known problems at our end. I suspect there may be a problem with this FTP server ?.

Thanks !

Hi,

Can you check if your proxy settings are working fine in the OME server? You can do that by navigating to "Preferences" page. You must have provided your proxy details there, just click on "Test connection" and it should show successful connection message.

Hi Pupul,

Thanks for your suggestion. We don't need to use a proxy in our network environment so this setting is unconfigured in OME in our setup. It was working fine a few days ago with this config.

I guess if you haven't had reports from other customers about issues using the FTP site I guess problem must be something in our environment.

Thanks.

Update. I changed the Catalog source address to the following and seems to be working OK now.

ftp://ftp.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab

Hi,

The URL ftp://ftp.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab will work.

ftp://downloads.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab is a mirror for the same and there should not be a problem using that as well. Can you try putting back ftp://downloads.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab in the catalog source text box and check if it works?

Those posts has the wrong URL ftp://downloads.dell.com never existed. The supported url’s are

ftp://ftp.dell.com

http://ftp.dell.com

http://downloads.dell.com - This is mirrored across globe

A note that in my case, the resolved IP differed at one site than from others. Google DNS appeared to return different results based on my location.

143.166.147.76 didn't work... while 143.166.135.76 worked.

nslookup -q=any ftp.dell.com. 8.8.8.8
Server:  google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address:  8.8.8.8
Non-authoritative answer:
ftp.dell.com    canonical name = ftp.ins.dell.com

nslookup -q=any ftp.ins.dell.com. 8.8.8.8
Server:  google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address:  8.8.8.8
Non-authoritative answer:
ftp.ins.dell.com        internet address = 143.166.135.76
