The Inventory Collector (package srvadmin-cm) does not install on Ubuntu 14.04.03 LTS

Hi!

I posted this question originally over here (http ://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3525/t/19667810) and added a post to a 1yr old thread here (http ://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4494/t/19592018).

I am trying to setup the Inventory Collector on  PowerEdge 1950 running Ubuntu 14.04.03 LTS without succeeding:

# apt-get install srvadmin-cm

In the thread above (second link) I read that DUP was not supported on Ubuntu. This thread is around 1 year old and I was hoping that this is no longer true... :) If it is true, then I wont need the Inventory Collector, but if things have changed then I need it and ergo need help investigating why it wont install.

Best regards,

Some junk characters added to the whitepaper URL in the above post.

This is the correct link:

Thanks Anders for the post.

Though Ubuntu is not officially tested with OpenManage Essentials, I will suggest to update to latest OME version 2.1.

-> Try discovering the linux target with snmp/ssh which will give you inventory information without software inventory information.

-> Then go to remote tasks-> create firmware and driver inventory and see if the task is successful.
(OME will try to push invcol on the target and get the information).

Refer en.community.dell.com/.../20440699 ;for more details.

Let us know if it works for you.

Thanks,
Vijay

Hi Vijay!

Thanks for trying to help me out here :)

OMSA is installed on Ubuntu and I know its not supported, but I thought I'd post anyway and hope for the best :P

* Updated OME to v2.1.0 - done

I tried what you said and get this:

Results: File deploy command failed to execute with error message: Error initializing SSH. Connection refused.

We dont have SSH on port 22 on this server and I cant see anywhere in the task creation where I could change this. I have added SSH as a discovery for this IP-adress (added a single host for a single discovery) and that works fine.

Thanks for update Anders.

I have passed both these requests to the right teams for consideration - Ubuntu support for invcol and ssh port configuration for OME.

Stay tuned.

Thanks,
Vijay
