Two servers showing unknown state

Running Openmanage essentials 2.0.0.1926

Two of my previously happy servers are now both showing the dreaded white question mark.

Both are being monitored by SNMP.

Running the SNMP troubleshooting tool on OME reports both of them as happy and able to communicate. Other servers in the same discovery group are fine.

Both servers are running openmanage 7.4.0 and are supported servers.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Okay. Thanks for this confirmation.

Couple of questions:

  • Have you discovered only the server, or server and RAC both? If you discovering server and RAC, both then please discover them separately to check the returned health state.
  • Can you try deleting the device from the device tree and then do a rediscovery to check what happens?
  • Do you see the applaunch for OMSA for these servers showing up as unknown? Can you try to launch OMSA and check what is the health state that is shown on the OMSA GUI?

Hi Jiff,

Thanks for the post!

Can you try running the troubleshooting tool and see what does it return as output? And share it with us, as it will help us to understand the issue.

It will somewhat look like this:

MIB-II (System Name)
Server Administrator (Version) 7.4.0
Storage Management (Agent Version) 4.4.0
Inventory Collector (Agent Version) 7.4.1 (BLD_258)

Thanks

Ranveer

Reboot hasn't helped. (sorry, was one of the things I've already tried!)

Hi Jiff, thanks for the query.

Please check if target server reboot fixes the issue. Once reboot is done, perform discovery and inventory again in OME and see if health comes through fine.

MIB-II (System Name) Server1.domain.local
Server Administrator (Version) 7.4.0
Storage Management (Agent Version) 4.4.0
Inventory Collector (Agent Version) 7.4.1 (BLD_258)

MIB-II (System Name) Server2.domain.local
Server Administrator (Version) 7.4.0
Storage Management (Agent Version) 4.4.0
Inventory Collector (Agent Version) 7.4.1 (BLD_258)

Just for reference I also scanned a machine that reports healthy.

MIB-II (System Name) Server3.domain.local
Server Administrator (Version) 7.4.0
Storage Management (Agent Version) 4.4.0
Inventory Collector (Agent Version) 7.4.1 (BLD_258)

Discovering only the servers via SNMP (this collection is my older servers, my newer servers are discovered by iDrac only).

OMSA gui shows them both as healthy.

Deleting and rediscovering them has, this time, brought them back in. (I did it previously and it didn't!). I shall keep my eye on them to see if they go unknown after a period of time.
