Upgrading to 2.5.0 - SQL Server Express and Database

Hi,

We are looking to upgrade OME version 2.2.0 to the latest version 2.5.0, and noticed that there are a lot of stale records when searching in the GUI.  Currently the instance is OME version 2.2.0, SQL Server Express 2012, running on Server 2012 R2. I just wanted to ask a few questions that I am not quite familiar with in regards to the upgrade process.

1. Will the OME Installer give the option of uninstalling the old version of SQL?

2. If not, once we upgrade to 2.5.0, can we do this manually to save space on the server's local disk?

3. The inventory in the database shows a lot of stale records, is there any best practice to purge the database records, but not the discovery ranges to start with clean slate?

Thanks very much,
Daniel

Hello

The installation guide should answer a lot of those questions. You can find it on the OME support page. Section 9.1  of the 2.5 guide discusses data migration and how it occurs between various SQL versions.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

OME upgrade from 2.2 to 2.5 is not a supported use-case. You need to first upgrade to 2.3/2.4, and then to 2.5.

#1 - No. If at all needed, this has to be carried out manually. Basically take backup of OME DB from previous SQL instance and then restore it on a newer one of your choice.

#2 - Yes. Use backup and restore operations.

#3 - What are these stale records? If those are undesired device list on Devices portal, you can delete them from the UI itself. If you wish to start fresh on new OME instance, you can export all your discovery ranges into file system. Then uninstall previous version, including SQL server and then install OME 2.5. You can then import those ranges into OME for discovery of devices.

Hope this helps!
