iDRAC6 stuck on firmware update from GUI
I have an iDRAC6 1.20.01 and I logged into it's GUI and started a firmware update to take it to 1.95.
It never felt like it completed and logging out and back into the GUI it's still at 1.20.01.
When I log in via SSH and run racadm getsysinfo I see that it is still at 1.20.01.
When I try to update the firmware via ssh I get:
ERROR: A firmware update operation is already in progress.
When I run racadm racreset soft I get:
ERROR: A firmware update is currently in progress. Unable to reset the RAC at this time.
It has been in this state for hours now.
I cannot reboot the server. What are my options?

Unfortunate. Only option is to reboot the server to get out of this state.
Thanks,

I just updated a few servers recently to 1.95 and had a couple do this same thing. I just rebooted the iDrac, not the server, and tried again until it worked.

and you were able to upgrade from 1.54 to 1.95 via the idrac gui? That should not have worked due to an expired certificate issue in idrac fw's prior to 1.85

iris, what version of idrac fw are you upgrading from? Anything before 1.85 is going to be tricky sometimes. When this issue happens, I suggest gracefully powering down the system and removing powercords so the idrac can totally reset. ideally, the system should not automatically power back on when the power cords are reconnected, AND the system should not be powered on until the front lcd panel light comes on, or the lcd panel responds to an lcd panel button push. This allows for the idrac to completely bootup before powering on the system.

I would suggest resetting the iDrac from the gui before running the updates, you shouldn't have any problems then.

Hello ludek.roskot,
Sorry to see the issues with updating the DRAC.
Try a LifeCycle Repair then update the DRAC with the .d6 file:
Dell LifeCycle Controller v1.7.5 Repair Package
Provide the .usc file in the DRAC Update
https://dell.to/3gxHnQ1
Dell iDRAC Monolithic Release 2.92
Get the file --
File Format: An application
File Name: iDRAC6_2.92_A00_FW_IMG.exe
*Execute the file to extract files
-Provide the firmimg.d6 file in the DRAC Update
https://dell.to/3fx0Bnu
Please let me know if this helps.
