667mhz DDR2-RAM In A GX520

Both the GX620 and GX520 run on Intel's 945G chipset, yet their respective manuals say that the GX620 supports 533/667mhz DDR2-RAM and the GX520 supports 400/553mhz DDR2-RAM.

Is this right? Does the GX520 only support up to 533mhz RAM? I know that 667mhz support is part of the 945G chipset, so I am wondering if this is an error in Dell's documentation.

Thanks in advance.

Only limitation I can imagine is the actual bus.  More then likely the 620 has either a higher bus or a dedicated bus for another compoent that the 520 does not.  Thus less to traverse accross the one with 2 buses so the bus can reach its manufacturer specified speed "potential".  Just a guess without knowing the internal componetns of the two system and am ready for sleep so is a best guess right now.  Maybe another can confirm?

This is a question I'd like to know an answer to myself since I'm looking at buying a used GX 520 that I would want to upgrade from 512MB to 4GB of RAM, and it's easier to get 2GB PC-5300/5400 (667MHz) sticks than PC-4200 (533 MHz) sticks.

From what I have seen, most companies seem to guarantee PC-5300/5400 sticks will work in the GX 520, but I could use a confirmation myself.

I installed to identical crucial pc2-5300 667 memory upgrades in a GX520 Motherboard rev. a01, bios a11, and bios and cpuz and sandra all report that it's running at 533 Mhz (PC2-4200).

So it works fine, however it doesn't run at full speed.

There's something weird going on with my GX620. I installed 667 ram in it a while back but the bios setting only reads it as 333. Any suggestions?

IamStryker

That is correct for DDR2 Ram. Double Data Rate 2 x 333 = 666.6

666 Devil Ram  :emotion-14:

In the New Testament, the Book of Revelation (13:17-18) cryptically asserts 666 to be "the number of a man," associated with the beast, an antagonistic creature that appears briefly about two-thirds into the apocalyptic vision.
