800mhz Memory on a 667mhz Laptop?

Hi all:

A buddy of mine gave me a 2 year old Inspiron 1721 Laptop that blew a Mem Module and would rather buy a new Laptop then replace the Mem, HIS Loss my gain............

Anyway the Memory in it is 2- 1 gig 667mhz FSB Non-ECC chips.

And I've got 2- 2 gig 800mhz FSB Non-ECC chips that are Brand New.

That I'd bought for another Laptop that gave up the Ghost before I could put it in.

My question is Simply this, Will it work in the Inspiron that he gave me?

I looked at the specs on Dell's site and it said up to 4 gig 667.

Any help in this would be welcome....

Hello,

Since you already have the memory ...

If the new RAM is the same type required ( SoDIMM DDR2 ) give it a try. It may, or may not work, depending on if the specs of the RAM match the system requirements. You can read the upgrade memory page at my site to see why Dell computers require model specific memory if you like.

But quality 800 memory if the correct spec will slow to the required speed.

Thanks for the input.

I tried it and it didn't work, So I'll go by your spec's and get it off of Cruical.

Most grateful for your input/advice.  Thanks Again...
