9100 xps studio in new case - need help with pin layout and usb cable hookups

Hello,

I recently purchased this 9100 xps studio, but needed a case.

I bought a full atx case and have everything in there, but here's my problem.

When I first start the computer, before windows loads, it goes to an error screen stating the FRONT USB CABLE NOT DETECTED.  Sometimes it loads Windows after this, sometimes I hit escape and it loads windows.

There are two usb ports on the front of the case, only one works.   None of the usb ports on the rear, the ones on the MB, work.   There is only one cable coming from the front panel to the motherboard.

Which FUSB should I plug this front cable to?  It is a black connector.

Does anyone have the pin layout for the front panel?

Thanks!

Chipset and Management engine and other drivers are required for the ports to work.

Dell Does not publish this kind of information.

There is no support for this.

Wow, thanks for the help.

I know I'm not the only one that has ever put this in a different case.

Anyone else have any help?

The only way to dispatch the front USB error is to install the front panel from an XPS 9100 - nothing aftermarket is going to connect to that cable/panel.

On the other error, did you do a reinstall of Windows?  If so, you need to install the chipset drivers as noted in the first reply in order to have functional USB ports.  What OS and version did you install?

It came with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. Where would I find the chipset drivers?

Is this what I need to get for the front usb panel?

System uses an X58 Intel chipset -- though Dell doesn't support 10 on it, Intel does have drivers.

That part looks correct (how it's to be mounted on a non-Dell case ...).

Thanks,

what about the cables?

I'll figure out some way to mount it, maybe an empty drive bay or something.

The cables are not documented.  Dell never releases this information.

You're going to need the cable to go with the front panel ports.

Only the OEM cable is going to work with them.

This is not documented and a guess but looks Similar to yours.

R849J    CARD (CIRCUIT), PLANAR (MOTHERBOARD),

XPS DT, M/B, 435MT

If you get a Dell R627C Studio 540 / XPS 435 MT Power Button + Cable you can check the wires to each LED and to the power on button.  There is also a Jumper on the cable.  Yellow Black is one LED, Red White is another LED,  Blue Green is the button, and there is a white jumper between pins.

The Audio and usb is Dell XPS 435mt Front I/O Panel USB Firewire Audio (P735K)

Note the cables are color coded for the connectors. This is not an accident.

Yes, I noticed that on the MB.
