ATI RAdeon 9200 PCI
Hi
I have a problem with the ATI Radeon 9200 PCI Video card. The drivers installed itself correctly and I see the Windows XP startup screen. But just before the XP login screen shall come up, the screen is just totaly black. I do not know if the system is hanging or if the monitor is just black. It seems like the system is hanging.
I have tried different PCI slots on my Dimension 2400 but that won't solve the problem. I have also downloaded the latest drivers from teh ATI (Shappire) web site.
Is there a know solution to this?

First make sure you have the Primary display adaptor in the bios, set to AUTO...
Then, boot up in safe mode (tap the F8 key on the blue dell screen)
Then locate the onboard in device manager(right click My computer, properties, hardware, device manager) right click the onboard adaptor and choose disable, apply changes and exit, hopfully that should work..
Good luck

Thanks man !!
That really help ! It worked....
But then another problem came up. The on-board (intel) graphic controller installed itself (New hw found pop-up) and the system went into a hang. It is strange that it is impossible to deactivate the on-board card in BIOS. Is there another way to solve it?

Looks like it was a 2400, but this is the only success story i've seen so far. Not sure if its certain manufactures 9200's or a different method of installation, but no one else seems to be able to get the 9200 to work
It seems to me from the initial post, that the card and drivers were installed using the onboard video, then the monitor cable swapped to the card and then the usual method (safemode and disable onboard)...

Its a mystery to me

I installed the ATI 9200 on my Dimension 2400 and it works fine. Just make sure that you don't install the driver for the on-board video or else your system will hang for a long time.
The only problem I'm having right now is that I can only set the resolution to 1024x768 running with the dell monitor D1728D-LS (or 17LS). I know that this monitor's max resolution is 1280x1024 because it worked fine at this resolution with my old Matrox card.

I finally was able to configure my resolution to 1280x1024 and higher with this D1728D-LS (VS17X) monitor to work with the ATI 9200 card. All you have to do is to reinstall the monitor driver for Dell VS17X using the driver file "dellmon.exe" downloaded either from dell support or driverguide.com.
Basically, the ATI 9200 card worked fine on the Dimension 2400 platform with an old monitor like Dell VS17X type as long as you install the correct drivers.
Good luck!
