Add second hard drive in Dimension 3100 without plastic bracket?

I have a second SATA hard drive I would like to add to my Dimension 3100. There is a second hard drive bay, but my system (approx. 2 years old) did not come with a second plastic bracket for installation. I have a couple of screws I can use to mount the second hard drive (SATA 160GB) in the bay to keep it stable and allow room for airflow, etc. Is this ok to do? I don't want to buy a second plastic bracket (pt # U6436) as it will cost me about $25 - $30 for a piece of plastic!

I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone is willing to share.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for the quick response. I have installed the drive with the screws and it seems to be secure. As for your suggestion to purchase the mounting tray from the link above, while the price of $4.99 is right, the additional shipping cost of $25 - $30 USD is a little steep for me (I'm in Canada).

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, it should work.

Have you tried buying the 3100 Hard Drive Mounting Tray from HERE for $4.99?

Sounds good.

Do not know that you resided in Canada and I would not pay $25/30 USD for the tray either.   :emotion-5:
