Adding 2nd Monitor - will add'l graphics card disable on-board video?

I've got five staffers needing dual monitors.  All have Dell OptiPlex desktops - two old GX260's, two 760's, and a 755.  I figured out the 760's are PCIE and the others PCI.  However, I've got some cards I could put in that are single VGA, or single DVI connectors.  I'd like to use them up, but don't know if they'd override the on-board video or serve as a 2nd video card so dual-monitors would work.

Is there a general "rule-of-thumb" for these decisions?

general "rule-of-thumb" says inserting the card disables onboard INTEL video.

yes the basic rule is that if you add any additional card on the board it disables the on board card, let it be any like sound card, video card or lan card or any one.
