Alienware Aurora Midi

I am about to buy an Aurora at around £3,000 but it tells me it cannot support an optical drive...! How do I load games from CD or play DVDs?

You'll need an external USB drive (and since Windows 10 doesn't have a native DVD Blue Ray decoder, be sure whatever you buy comes with the software you'll need if you plan to play Blue Ray discs on the system).

Can't say I'm happy with that, ein63.... I have all kinds of stuff, Paint Shop Pro,  Photoshop, to name but two... These are on disc.

Looks like I'll have to go shopping elsewhere... :-(

The Area 51 series has built-in DVD support.

For that matter, the Aurora does too - but they're optional.  You have to add the drive when you configure the system for purchase.

Thanks for your continued help.

It is not possible to add a DVD drive to the Aurora on-line. There is a choice visible but when you select it, it tells you it can't be included on the chassis and that you must select "not incluced...".

Thanks for mentioning Area 51. I'll check it out.

External USB2/USB3 DVD are VERY CHEAP.  External Blue Ray Drives with Playback software are a bit more.   Even Apple has discontinued optical Drives.  Going elsewhere isn't going to make an optional drive appear.  Floppy disk drives are also not an option but can be added back via USB.

Thanks everybody.  Nice to know you're all around to help...

I have just ordered Area 51.  I will only need the DVD drive fo loading. I never use Blue Ray and play CDs on my Hi-Fi...Dell's external drive uses USB 2.0 which I didn't fancy either.

Anyway, thanks again...
