Audio stutters: Opti960 E8500,4gb, 250gb Raid1, Onboard sound, Dell Bluetooth KB/Mouse, XP Pro

Audio stutters playing MP3's in Windows Media player, or iTunes. Tried many different files with same result.
- Turned off all antivirus, and other startup kind of stuff - No change
- Loaded new Audio driver from Dell Support. Appears to be same one that was originally installed. No change.

I see other posts where laptop owners turned OFF Wi-Fi and had success - No Wi-Fi here, wired internet NIC.

Any idea's??

One thing that has helped this problem is to turn off any "Sound Enhancements" if you have that setup option.  Sound Enhancements are things such as reverb, echo, chorus, etc.

Is this just MP3's or is it actually any audio?

This is a brand new system. No "sound Enhancements". Just standard Windows XP Pro, Integrated audio.

Sound stutters in Windows Media Player and also itunes. WMA or MP3 or other formats appear to make no difference. All stutter.

Going with the "Wi-Fi" theme, removed the Bluetooth KB/Mouse, and hooked up std USB kb/mouse. No change-Still stutters.

The Sound Enhancements is not an add on of any kind, it's a software option, if your PC has it.

One other thing, Uninstall the sound in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will "find new hardware" and install the sound.  This sometimes puts the sound on a different shared IRQ and fixes some problems.  Sound is considered a low priority item and is always uses a shared IRQ with a higher priority device.
