Can i install Windows 7 32 bit on my dell vostro 400?
Hi All,
Just trying to figure out if i can install windows 7 32 bit on my vostro 400 and still have all my hardware working properly.
Mother board Dell Inc. 0GN723
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHz L2 Cache 8,192KB
RAM 3,328 mg (4GB)
Monitor Dell 2208WFP(Digital)
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
COMMS Inte(R) 82562V-2 10/100 Network Adapter
Audio Realtek HD audio
Optical TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653B
Hard Drive ST3500630AS IDE/SATA
Basically, i am worried about finding drivers for everything. I used the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it did NOT identify any hardware that was incompatible, yet
ddell does not list the Vostro 400 as being windows 7 compatible, so i was just wondering.
Also, could the Vista drivers help me?
Thanks for any response.

You shouldn't have any problems, although if you have XP now it will take a full, new, install. If you now have Vista 32 bit you can do an "upgrade" type install.
Dell has Vista 32 bit drivers and they will work in Win 7. Dell Vista 32 bit drivers Actually, Win 7 has drivers built in for a lot of hardware and you may not even need any Dell drivers.

i was able to successfully install windows 7 professional version on my old Vostro 400 on top of an XP Professinal OS.
i had a large 1 terabyte drive that i split using partitioning software into 2, keeping the xp os and installing windows 7 pro on the newly created one.
I am writing this post from my windows 7 pro os now.
However, after a few years of being on 7, recently Windows updated with a critical path for the OS that is affecting my Video Card Nvidia gs8300. At times, it will stop and restart on its own. It's possible that it may be a coincidence that the card may be starting to fail on me after 7 years of solid performance from my Vostro 400 (Best PC i have owned so far).
Hope this helps.
