Can i make my precision 690 a 64 bit system?

I have a 690 precision and it is running Vista ultimate 32bit, and now that I understand 64bit systems a bit more, I want to know if I can upgrade my processor and OS to 64bit? Or do I need to replace the motherboard too? Is this something that Dell can do for me?

Alternatively you could download the Windows 7 Release Candidate x64 version and install this. It already has chipset and most other hardware drivers included. Bob

The processor(s) in your 690 are capable of running a 64 bit operating system. To do this you need to reinstall from scratch using an x64 version of Vista, including the 64 bit Dell drivers which can be found on the Dell Support site. Bob
