Can someone who has a xps 9000 answer this..

My son wants to buy a xps 9000 desktop. The reason he wants to buy from Dell is because he can get a complete system ,and warranty for a little less than building one. His question is ,will it play games like COD 4 MW 2,Flight simulator X,high end games.

If someone who has a XPS 9000 and games on it could reply. Thanks

Pollock77,

I have a 9000 and use it for gaming. It is more than adaquate for gaming in its base configuration EXCEPT for the graphics card. I'm using an ATI 4850 currently and very happy with it running COD MW. Power supply is adaquate for all but the highest end cards.

The base studio xps 9000 with the ati hd4350 - NO! that card gets a low 3.8 rating in the windows 7 performance index. i've tried modern warfare 2 on low settings with that card and it struggled with single digit Frame Rates(FPS). needless to say, I replaced the stock  4350 with an Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770(from Newegg). I am able to play all of your games mentioned at ultra high settings with 60 plus frames per second. Crisis & Crisis Warhead are the only games my video card struggles to get 21-24 fps on b/c it is considered mid- range.

Dell offers the ATI 5870 as an upgrade which is an extreme high end video card at a good price ($330) much cheaper than retail($429). there are many good cards out there, just make sure you research and compare..

Supremefive,

Thanks for contributing. But you should read my post more carefully.

While I agree with him that the video card in the standard spec 9000 is not up to snuff (I have a 4350HD by HIS and it does well for displaying high definition video sources, but doesn't really keep up with the newer games coming out), it won't be necessary to spend $300 or more on a video card just to games coming out these days.

However, I tend to look further down the line. If I bought an xps 9000 NOW, I probably WOULD spend $300 on a video card so that I wouldn't be buying yet another video card in a couple years.
